Who’s Who and What This Privacy Notice Covers

We are Hikki no Mori Translations ( “We”, “the Team” ), a small hobby project dedicated to translating Japanese web novels. We operate an Internet blog ( “Blog” ) based on WordPress technology on which we publish translated chapters and allow fans to comment and share their opinion.

This Notice aims to explain what kind of data do we collect in the process from everyone that visits the site ( “Visitors” ) and what happens with that data.

Information We Collect About Visitors to Our Users’ Sites

The Blog automatically collects certain technical data about the Visitors device that the web browsers tend to make available to any site on the Internet: IP address, browser type, unique device identifiers, language preference, referring site, the date and time of access, operating system, and mobile network information.

When the Visitor decides to use the “Like” feature we collect the IP address. and date/time of usage.

When the Visitor decides to Comment or Contact Us, we collect the name or social media profile link, E-Mail address, IP Address, and the contents of the message itself.

Additionally, the Blog uses the Akismet and Jetpack services offered by Automattic. The details of what information is shared with those and how it is processed can be found here.

How We Use Visitor Information

The data we collect, where not essential for the operation of the Blog ( like displaying and properly attributing comments ) is used to identify malicious activity on the Blog and comply with law enforcement obligations.

Anonymised lists of IP Addresses belonging to bad actors may be shared with other translation teams.

We do not collect or share Visitor data for commercial purposes of any kind.

How We Share Visitor Information

Subsidiaries, Employees, and Independent Contractors:

The Team does not have any Subsidiaries or Contractors. All Team members as listed on the Team page, have access to “Like” and “Comment” data, as well as to the anonymized statistical information about the Visitors. Only Peter in his capacity as the site administrator has unrestricted full access to the automatically collected technical data.

Third Party Vendors:

We may share Site visitor information with third party vendors ( like Automattic ) who need to know this information in order to provide their services to us. This group includes vendors that help us provide our services to our Visitors.

Legal Requests:

We will disclose Visitor information in response to a subpoena, court order, or other kinds of governmental request.

Information Shared Publicly:

Information that visitors choose to make public is–you guessed it–disclosed publicly. That means, of course, that information like visitor comments is available to others, including information about the visitor that is displayed in connection with a comment.
